A TEAM of York businessmen and women are getting on their bikes to help raise money for a school they built in Africa.

Last year York businesses Ashtons Estate Agents, Hethertons Solicitors, Yorvik Homes and Intandem Communications joined forces to raise enough money to build a school in Africa.

As well as organising a charity ball the team walked the Yorkshire Three Peaks, and raised £15,000.

The money has been given to Build Africa with work starting to build a primary school in Kamunthini, in Kenya.

The school has 300 children, with the money raised in York helping to repair four classrooms, build four new classrooms and provide toilets and washing facilities as well as books and pencils for the children.

Now the team of York professionals have reunited to raise enough money to finish all the work needed at the school.

Their first event this year is to cycle ‘Coast to Coast’ from Morecambe to Bridlington, with a call being made for other businessmen and women to join them.

The team taking part is Peter Docwra of Ashtons Estate Agents, Matthew Gath of Yorvik Homes, Rachel Goddard of Intandem Communications, Simon Crack of Hethertons Solicitors and Karen Harrison of Ashtons Lettings.

Rachel Goddard said: "We’ve had a fantastic response from York businesses and from our friends and families in response to our challenge to build a school with Build Africa.

"We were thrilled to raise £15,000 last year, now we need to raise more funds so we can complete the project and so we do hope that people will be inspired to join us or sponsor us as we cycle 170 miles from Coast to Coast in June."
