A YORK hotel has become the latest business to sign up to the York CORE superfast broadband project.

Middletons Hotel, formerly Lady Ann Middleton's in Skeldergate, has become the first hotel to access the pure fibre network running through York.

The connection, which was provided by York Data Services, forms part of a £500,000 extensive refurbishment of Middletons Hotel, which is creating a 'Creative Hub' for businesses in the digital sector.

The initiative has already welcomed its first business after York-based digital design agency The Distance moved into newly revamped office space above Emperor’s Gym.

The need for office space dedicated to the industry was recognised by hotel owner Henny Clark, who moved quickly on establishing a private-sector-led hub.

The £500,000 investment has seen work completed on a number of areas at the hotel, including bedroom refurbishment, new outdoor space, and a new kitchen and dining area.

The York CORE network is a partnership between City of York Council and City Fibre, and consists of 119km of pure fibre network connecting 179 sites in the city.
