YORK has been placed sixth in a top ten list of best rated UK destinations.
The list forms part of the Travellers' Choice awards for Destinations, compiled by Trip Advisor.
This year has seen York rise significantly in the award rankings compared to 2013, when it didn't make the top ten.
The only other destination in Yorkshire to make the top ten list, which was topped by London, was Leeds, which ranked ninth.
Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “This is yet more good news for Yorkshire, and shows that our cities are being acknowledged as highly desirable destinations for visitors from all over the world.
“To have York and Leeds rank so highly nationally is great news in the year that will see both cities play crucial roles in our county’s hosting of the famous Tour de France Grand Départ, and it is further proof that our cities continue to be a great credit to Yorkshire.”
