TWO of Edinburgh's most famous city centre gardens feature turf grown on the outskirts of York.
Charlotte Square and Princes Street Gardens have been rejuvenated with turf supplied by Elvington-based Rolawn.
Edinburgh City Council appointed specialist contractor Sportsmasters UK Ltd to undertake the project to re-turf Princes Street Gardens, the city’s best known park which lies beneath the castle and Charlotte Square, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Sportsmasters then awarded the turf supply contract to Rolawn.
Gavin Brown, managing director of Sportsmasters UK Ltd said: “Vital to the success of this high profile project is turf quality which meets the exacting standards demanded by our client, turf rolls that are efficient and easy to lay, and a delivery service that can cope with such a large project in a heavily populated major city centre.
"We selected Rolawn and their Medallion turfmaster rolls because they meet all of these requirements and more. The turf quality is excellent, logistical planning is faultless and we are more than confident the gardens will look fantastic for both residents and visitors alike."
