A JOCKEY’S mother has launched a catering business after being inspired by her son’s eating habits.

Flat jockey Jacob Butterfield has ridden 34 winners so far in 2014, working with Malton trainers Ollie Pears, Kristin Stubbs and Brian Ellison.

But at 5ft 8ins, the 20-year-old is unusually tall for his profession.

As a result he has to work constantly to keep his weight down at 8st 6lb, while also maintaining enough energy for the sport.

After years of cooking for her son, Sally Butterfield has now opened her own healthy food business – Sally’s Kitchen On The Green, in Clifton, York, The café also offers a dial a roast service for takeaway Sunday dinners.

Mrs Butterfield said: “With Jacob being so tall for a jockey, he has worked so hard to get the opportunities that he now enjoys. I’ve always wanted to run a business like this and Jacob’s racing has given me the spur.

“My passion in life has always been food. As well as the dial-a-roast service I’m more than happy for people to bring in their veg from the allotment and I can make a soup for them.”
