FRAUDSTERS are using an email threatening recipients with court action to launch viruses on computers around the region.
The Business Crime Reduction Centre (BCRC) has warned businesses and individuals in North Yorkshire about the scam which uses an authentic-looking email to scare people into opening an attachment which contains details of the “court notice”.
In reality, the attachment is an .exe file which contains a virus.
Mark Connell, cyber security specialist for BCRC, said: “Provoking a panicked, impulse reaction has become a very common scam technique for cyber criminals.”
Anyone who receives the email should not open it, and report it to Action Fraud on 0300 1232040.
