THE managing director of York’s Mulberry Hall business has been appointed as the new chairman of City Team York.

The group was set up in August 2012 with the aim of improving business growth, resiliance and economic vitality in the city centre.

Made up of retailers, the council and a range of professional and businesses organisations, City Team York began under the chairmanship of Coun James Alexander, leader of City of York Council, who announced in July the group was seeking a new private-sector chair.

Following an application process which took place last year, Adam Sinclair was appointed to the role.

Speaking about his plans, Mr Sinclair said: “I am very pleased to have been offered the challenge of leading City Team York over the next stage, and driving forward a programme to make the very best of York city centre.

“York is a city of which I am immensely proud and I am committed to working with colleagues from business and public bodies to support the development of its businesses and professions for resilience, growth and inward investment.

“It is now time for local businesses to take up responsibility for leading the City Team agenda and jointly work with the council and other bodies to achieve economic vitality, visible success and a real buzz to the city centre.

“My City Team York colleagues are as passionate and ambitious as I am for the city, and we will work in partnership with organisations across the city and unitary authority to make sure York rises to the challenge of adapting to the changing market place and making the most of every opportunity.”

Coun Alexander said: “I am delighted that Adam has been appointed the new chair of City Team York and would like to wish him every success in the role.

“The council brought together business, public and third sector representatives to develop a true partnership approach to achieving economic prosperity in the city’s centre, so it can successfully adapt to both new and emerging market challenges and opportunities.

“I’m looking forward to being part of the City Team York with Adam at the helm and continuing to support the group in its work.

“I am confident that the group will go from strength to strength and will put in place real action plans with the focus on continuing the hard work to improve the city centre.”
