New contract for Drax Power Station
8:01am Wednesday 29th January 2014 in Business news
DRAX Power Station has agreed a new contract for the handling of ash from its biomass burners.
The Selby power station, which is in the process of converting from coal fired to biomass-fuelled, has agreed a Biomass Ash Segregation System Contract with Clyde Bergemann Doncaster.
As part of the requirements for the conversion the fly ash produced when burning biomass needs to be handled differently due to its distinct characteristics and chemistry. Drax also wanted to separate the biomass ash from the coal ash for commercial reasons.
Clyde Bergemann’s turnkey solution proposed the installation of a new, separate biomass ash storage silo in the vicinity of the current storage bunkers to receive and store ash from existing pneumatic ash systems.
