THE chairwoman of VisitEngland made a trip to York to discuss the importance of conservation.
Lady Penelope Cobham was at the Cedar Court Grand Hotel and Spa in York for the first foundation dinner, and spoke to scores of guests at the first dinner of the Bedern Hall Foundation.
The dinner was timed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the laying of the restoration foundation stone of Bedern Hall. The Foundation has been launched to ensure the hall will continue to be available for hire to the public.
Roger Lee, director of the Bedern Hall Company and Time and Place Catering, who operate the hall, said: “We were delighted that Lady Cobham agreed to speak at the dinner.
“The Foundation aims to raise £30,000 annually to enable this vision to be realised and the dinner will be the beginning of a new era for the hall that will secure its future for the next generations.”
The dinner raised more than £5,000 in sponsorship before the event, and prizes valued at more than £2,000 were auctioned afterwards. For more information go to bedernhall.co.uk
