In a bid to make the most of “one of the most exciting events to come to Yorkshire in decades” Alex Wainman is putting together a four-day festival to coincide with next year’s Grand Depart.
Velofest will be a camping, cycling and music festival positioned along Stage 1 of the route for le Tour at Kilnsey Park Estate in the Yorkshire Dales.
Mr Wainman, who comes from a catering and hospitality background, anticipates the event will inject about £200,000 into the local economy through job creation and visitor spend on site and locally.
He said: “This is one of the most exciting events to come to Yorkshire in decades and we know there is a huge demand out there for those who want to be in the heart of the action.
“We have been looking around for months to find the perfect location and we believe we have found it.
“The setting is stunning, but it will also afford unbeatable access to the Stage 1 race, coupled with the very best camping and entertainment facilities in the area. We want to make this more than just about the race; we want to give everyone – cyclists, fans, families – an experience they won’t forget.”
Velofest, which runs from July 3 to 6, will include pitches for more than 3,500 tents, tiered viewing platforms to watch the peloton, an open air cinema, a cycle show and trade stands and a Yorkshire Food Village among other attractions.
