Spear's reach high targets
A MARKET town travel agents has been selected as the first outlet to be benefit from an £80,000 investment by its parent company as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Spear Travels, which has offices in Helmsley, Boroughbridge and Northallerton, and was founded in 1983, has achieved a record turn over of £13 million.
The figure, up £2 million from 2012, follows the company’s acquisition of an agency in the West Midlands, with further expansion set to create another ten new jobs.
In its 30th anniversary year Spear Travels is investing £80,000 in a refurbishment programme, with its Boroughbridge site the first to undergo work.
Peter Cookson, managing director of Spear Travels, said: “It’s certainly true that the world is changing and we now use the internet to do many of the things we used to do face-to-face, but our success comes from those people who still look forward to sitting down with an agent when they book their holidays.
“Although you may hear doom merchants proclaiming these are tough times for high street travel agents, our experience suggests there are still plenty of customers out there who prefer the personal touch to a remote, impersonal online booking experience.”
Spear Travels' other offices in Yorkshire are in Leyburn and Stokesley, as well as offices in Stoke, Wolverhampton and Upminster.
