Food giant Nestlé ‘performs strongly’
9:12am Saturday 19th October 2013 in Business news
YORK chocolate giant Nestlé has seen “old favourites” drive growth in the business’s confectionary division.
Announcing its third quarter results, the Nestlé UK & Ireland business reported its sixth consecutive month of manufacturing growth in September, enjoying a continually strong performance as it enters its final quarter of 2013.
Operating in what bosses have described as a “challenging environment”, the business has seen brand value growth across a number of products with Yorkie up 30.8 per cent, Breakaway up 21.9 per cent, and Milkybar up 10.7 per cent.
A spokesman for Nestlé said: “Although the economic outlook is more positive, we expect the environment we are operating in to remain challenging throughout 2013 and into 2014.
“The business continues to perform strongly, growing through delivering innovation across our key categories and responding to the changing needs of our consumers.”
This month sees the start of the Halloween season, worth approximately £65 million to the confectionery industry, kick-starting the busiest quarter of the year for the division.
The Nescafe brand also performed strongly, enjoying above-market growth, with the third quarter featuring the biggest Nescafe launch in 2013 with Nescafe Gold Blend Barista Style.
Nestlé Waters UK also reported a strong third quarter, supported by the sustained hot weather in summer.
The business is on track to deliver another successive year of double digit growth.
