Solicitors stage mock tribunal
10:22am Friday 11th October 2013 in Business news
SCENARIOS from an employment tribunal were played out to representatives from more than 70 businesses following the collaboration of York professional services.
Harrowells Solicitors, Hays Specialist Recruitment and barristers from Dere Street Chambers came together to deliver a mock employment tribunal at the De Grey Rooms.
Specialist employment barristers Edward Legard, Matthew Collins and Sam Healy played the roles of tribunal judge, respondent and claimant barristers, while members of Harrowells and Hays all played the parts of witnesses, with Sue Porter of SP Talent Management playing the part of the claimant.
Marie Horner, head of employment at Harrowells Solicitors, said: “We know that many HR professionals would like to see how an employment tribunal works in practice.
“Staging a mock hearing gives them a real flavour of how evidence is presented and witnesses examined.”
Kelly Dunn, business manager at Hays Specialist Business Recruitment, added: “Up-to-date information about the latest changes to employment law isn’t always easy to find, understand and then translate for your business.
“This event provided an excellent opportunity for employers and HR professionals to work together to understand what is involved in preparing for and attending an employment tribunal.”
