Labour call to support businesses
8:45am Wednesday 9th October 2013 in Business news
BUSINESS-based community groups need more support according to a York councillor.
A motion by the Labour Group calling for support for small and medium-sized business, particularly in the city centre, will be debated by councillors on Thursday.
It is being proposed by Micklegate Coun Sandy Fraser, who is highlighting what he says is a need for City of York Council to better co-ordinate and support the efforts of associations and community organisations such as the Micklegate Quarter, the Minster Quarter, Acomb Alive and BishyRoad.net.
Coun Fraser said: “The current challenging economic climate presents particular challenges for the city’s small and medium-sized businesses, especially in areas not traditionally seen as part of the city centre.
“The Labour Group will be asking that council takes a lead in developing a strategy targeted towards these areas and that more promotion is made of the fantastic work done by the supporting community groups and associations.”
