A SELECTION of food and drink producers in York have added new accolades to their portfolio as a result of this year’s York Food Festival.
The ten-day event, which celebrated produce from across the region, featured a number of “competitive” elements designed promote public involvement in the festival.
One such event was a sausage competition, held at the Guildhall, in which visitors to the festival were invited to sample and judge a selection of bangers before judging their favourite.
After the votes were cast Riverside Butchers, in Stamford Bridge, was awarded first prize for Best Butcher’s Sausage against the other eight regional butchers with their pork, herb and honey version.
David Soppelsa, who set up the business six months ago, said: “We are delighted to have won this award after such a short time in business and hope it is the first of many.”
The public also played their part in the results of the consumer choice award at this year’s Deliciouslyorkshire Awards, held in York to coincide with the festival.
Business entered the awards for either Best Drink, Best Dairy or Best Bakery Product, and had to submit 100 samples of their product to be tested by the public. All three winning businesses were from York, with Sloe Motion being voted Best Drink, Bluebird Bakery voted Best Bakery and Yorvale winning Best Dairy.
