Businessmen and women will be given the chance to tap into the knowledge and expertise of one of North Yorkshire’s top entrepreneurs as part of York Business Week.
The annual five-day event, which runs from November 18 to 22, features a packed programme aimed at boosting and encouraging enterprise in the city.
On Thursday, November 21, the University of York’s Ron Cooke Hub will host Accelerate Day – seven hours of masterclasses and surgeries engineered to help businesses across a range of development opportunities.
As part of the day, the Institute of Directors has signed up James Cain, managing director of Harrogate Spring Water, to provide inspiration and advice to businesses with growth ambitions.
In the keynote speech, which acts as the finale of Accelerate Day, Mr Cain will tell his story, the key lessons he’s learned, and his own ambitious growth plans.
Mr Cain will share with delegates how he is now starting to achieve success as an independent, family business in a market dominated by multi-nationals.
He said: “During an extremely tough market we have continued to reinvest in the business; in recent years we have started to realise significant success on the back of our key values of quality, trust and service.
“Both brands are now recognised and respected in the industry. Our development plans are now firmly in place to further strengthen our position in the soft drinks market over the coming years.”
Accelerate Day is being put together by a number of local and regional network organisations as part of York Business Week, including the Chamber of Commerce, Institute of Directors, York & North Yorkshire LEP, Science City York, Federation of Small Businesses and York Professionals.
Last year York, Business Week, which coincides with Global Entrepreneurship Week, attracted more than 6,000 people to about 50 events, and won almost 30 High Impact Awards from the organisers of Global Entrepreneurship Week.
York Business Week 2013 will include the Apprentice Graduation Ceremony at York Minster, an Enterprise Day at York St John University Business School; the Institute of Directors’ North Yorkshire annual dinner and will be rounded off with the city’s big celebration, The Press Business Awards 2013.
