Fire tender acquired by frozen food distributer
10:29am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in Business news
A FORMER airport fire tender has been acquired by frozen food distributor Reed Bordall as a “sound safety investment” for its Boroughbridge site.
The six-wheeled Angloco tender, formerly used at Luton Airport, was purchased in a bid to protect staff as well as the 11,000 pallets, containing £5 million-worth of food, processed every day at the 55-acre site. Carrying a reservoir of fire-retardant foam, the vehicle is kept on round-the-clock standby and is crewed by staff, mostly ex-firemen.
The crew is headed by Frank Appleton, who has been with the company since 1976.
He has spent much of that time as the retained chief fire officer of Boroughbridge.
