Talkie triumph for Easingwold firm
11:37am Monday 9th September 2013 in Business news
THE construction of a £200 million addition to London’s skyline has been completed with help from an Easingwold-based industrial sheeting specialist.
The Walkie Talkie building, in Fenchurch Street, so called because of its top-heavy shape, was built as part of a joint venture between Land Securities and the Canary Wharf Group.
As part of its construction, specialist fire-protection contractor Sharpfibre was responsible for the structural steel protection of the building and applied Cementitious Fire Spray at a rate of one floor each week.
To protect the environment during the process, an encapsulation process was adopted using a containment sheeting system provided by Industrial Textiles and Plastics (ITP) of Easingwold.
Marc van der Voort, managing director of ITP, said: “Our flame- retardant sheeting system satisfied the rigorous air quality standards closely monitored by the Corporation of London and performed well.’’
