Jobs scheme comes to York

AN innovative apprentice hiring scheme is coming to York following success on the east coast.
Scarborough based YH Training Services is looking for businesses in York who are planning to hire an apprentice, to join them for a recruitment day with a difference.
Instead of the traditional method of sending and receiving CVs and covering letters, the I Want An Apprentice – You’re Hired event aims to let employers see potential candidates use an array of skills from communication and IT to problem solving and time management.
The Ofsted Grade Two rated training provider has held a number of events in Scarborough during which candidates are put through their paces undertaking a variety of tasks with the object being to make £1million for a designated employer.
John Senior, head teacher at George Pindar School in Scarborough, who attended one of the events to recruit an IT apprentice, said “YH’s event is unique in that it provides a real opportunity to see a group of potential apprentices in a dynamic, work-based environment.
“To have had the opportunity to see them demonstrate team working, communication and time management skills, which they will need in any potential position, has been invaluable.”
At each I Want An Apprentice – You’re Hired event there has been positive outcomes where employers have found an apprentice and a large number of candidates have found employment.
A spokesman for YH Training said: “You too could benefit as; there are no recruitment costs and the training for recruiting a 16-18 year old will be provided free of charge.
“Apprentice recruitment provides you with the opportunity to harness fresh new talent, and if you haven’t recruited an apprentice in the past 12 months or provided apprenticeship training, you could be eligible to receive a grant of £1,500 to help you with the costs associated with employing and training your apprentice.”
