Conference aims to restore faith in UK food chain

RESTORING faith in the UK’s food chain will be the subject of a major conference taking place just outside York next month.

Following the recent horsemeat scandal, food manufacturers, processors and retailers from around the country will meet at The Food and Environment Research Agency, in Sand Hutton, to discuss the introduction of “robust verification measures” in the food chain, in particular the meat supply chain.

Hosted by York, North Yorkshire & East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), the conference will include international and UK industry speakers.

LEP board member David Kerfoot said: “The UK food and drink industry is the largest manufacturing sector in the country so it’s vital that we learn all we can from the horsemeat episode.

“Yorkshire and Humber is an ideal venue for this conference as it has extensive, mature supply chains, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and one of the largest concentrations of distributors in the UK.”

The conference takes place on Wednesday, April 24. To book your place email rachel@cicada-comms.com or phone1423 567111.
