‘No return as golf club’ says Allerthorpe landlord
11:44am Monday 4th March 2013 in Business news
ALLERTHORPE Park Golf Club will not reopen as a golf club in the foreseeable future, its landlord has claimed.
The club, near Pocklington, closed its gates in January when tenants Driving Foreward, which traded as Allerthorpe Park Golf Club, appointed liquidators.
The insolvency firm KJ Watkin & Co said upon appointment that it was trying to trying to find an interested party to continue trading the business.
But Jonathan Atkinson, landlord of Allerthorpe Park Golf Club, said it would not continue to trade as a golf club.
He said: “The lease in favour of Driving Foreward Limited has now been disclaimed by the liquidator and, as landlord, we are now back in possession of the land and premises.
“However, there are no plans in the foreseeable future to form a new golf club at Allerthorpe.
“We currently have no immediate plans for the land and buildings.
“We are considering all our options.”
Golf pro James Drinkall, his parents Jan and Paul, and wife Alex, took on the business in 2008 and invested £500,000 in it, before appointing liquidators.
