MACHINE manufacturing specialist Unison will double the size of its premises after securing a new site at Thornburgh Road, Scarborough.

The business, which has enjoyed 20 per cent growth year on year, will move from its current address at Olympian Trading Estate, Scarborough, to the new 20,000 sq ft site in April 2013.

Peter Wilkinson, non-executive director, said the move would enable the business to increase production.

He said: “Unison has experienced tremendous growth recently and we have made a big impression in the USA and India in particular. We have an order book to die for. One reason for the move is that it will enable us to increase production and headcount to accommodate this tremendous influx of new business. It also provides the scope to extend with additional storage land.”

The 40-year-old company which enjoyed a record breaking January this year by matching last year’s entire turnover in one month, has continued to enjoy huge success following a £100,000 investment in overseas marketing.

Mr Wilkinson added that the business, which also has offices in the USA and Germany, will keep its manufacturing base in Scarborough.

“We are fiercely proud of our Yorkshire heritage and the reputation for engineering excellence which goes with that. The new premises highlight our commitment to the region for the future,” he said.

Jonathan White, senior surveyor at Sanderson Weatherall which let the premises, said: “The new premises are ideal for Unison, combining industrial and office use and providing considerable scope for expansion.

“It’s always positive to see such a thriving regional business commit to an area in this way.”
