SCIENTISTS and support staff are settling into their new base in York after a major American medical testing company nearly doubled the size of its European hub.

ACM Global has been based at Aviator Court, Clifton Moor, since 1999 and employs 62 people. But demand for its business has been so high it has outgrown those premises and has now moved to Hospital Fields Road. The new laboratory block, at 14,500 square feet, is almost twice as big as the old premises.

Jerry Boxall, managing director Europe, said: “We are excited with the prospects offered by our new facility, which has been purpose built to optimise our laboratory processes.”

The company, which employs hundreds of scientists across the world, offers clinical trials and tests in microbiology, specialised biomarkers and across all recognised therapeutic areas. It has taken precautions to prevent the move affecting samples or disrupting tests in progress. The new laboratories will be officially opened in January, but are already operating.
