A CAKE maker is expanding her business, YORKCakes, with the launch of a cookery school in the York Eco Business Centre in Clifton Moor.

Kate Clarkson, who worked in the financial services sector for two decades before transforming her part-time passion for baking and sugar craft into a full-time occupation, decided to open the new arm of the business with husband Fraser when she heard The Cooking Rooms had become available.

Visitors will learn skills from how to decorate their Christmas cake to demonstrations by acclaimed chefs.

Kate said: “Our vision is to grow a vibrant cookery school that will provide a great opportunity for people to develop their skills as well as expand their knowledge of local food suppliers. As a venue, The Cooking Rooms provides the perfect setting for team buildings events for businesses as well as a place for food companies to test and launch new products.”

There will be an open day on Sunday, from 10.30am to 4pm, when there will be demonstrations by local chefs on patisserie, Italian food, sushi, Moroccan dishes and cocktails.
