A MEDICAL business which won investment at science and technology conference Venturefest has appointed a world-leading authority in its industry.

Aptamer Solutions, which relocated to the Applied Innovation Campus at the Food and Environment Research Agency (FERA) in Sand Hutton after winning the Investment Competition, has appointed Dr David Bunka as chief technical officer.

Aptamer Solutions develops medical testing using aptamers, a synthetic alternative to antibodies.

Dr Bunka, a molecular biologist from the University of Leeds, has more than ten years experience and is one of only a handful of experts worldwide in the area of aptamer development. The company has ambitious expansion plans, and has also recently appointed a business development manager, Melanie Ellyard, to grow strategic relationships.

Dr Arron Tolley, founder, said: “We’ve got several exciting projects and opportunities in the pipeline, and the increased capacity within the team means we are well placed to deliver.”
