AN HISTORIC York construction business has been recognised for its commitment to the region’s Reserve Forces.

William Birch and Sons was presented with a special certificate, one of only 80 presented each year, after reaffirming their support for reservists, which the company has supported for many years.

Site supervisor Andy Kettlestring, who has worked for the company for 20 years, has served in the Queen’s Own Yeomanry for the last 15 years and did a tour of duty in Iraq eight years ago.

Chris Birch, managing director, said: “We are delighted to be recognised in this way and are very proud to be supporting the Reserve Forces. Not only do reservists provide a vital role to our armed forces, but we and our employees also benefit enormously from the transferable skills they learn, particularly in decision-making, leadership and team work.

“Ultimately this means better personal development for the employee and a better business for all.”

Signed by the Chief of the Defence Staff and the Secretary of State for Defence, the certificate was presented by Richard Lenton, the Yorkshire and Humber Regional SaBRE Campaign Director.

It is a complete waste of Tax payers money it should be left just the way it is, Regular soldiers and the TA.Please note I spent many years in the reguler Army and the TA, with service all over the world. The Goverment should be cutting their cloth just like everyone else is having to do.
