Country retreat wins design award

RAITHWAITE Hall Country Retreat in Sandsend, Whitby, has won first place in the North York Moors National Park Authority’s annual Design Awards.

The hotel, which opened last October, was awarded Best Non-Residential Development by the authority.

The judging panel noted the hotel’s architects, David Bamford Architects, developed a well-designed scheme that used the topography of the existing landscaped gardens to its advantage.

Paul Ellis, managing director of developers Skelwith Group, said: “From the very beginning of the project we knew that we would have to marry old and new, and thanks to a great team of designers and architects we have been able to achieve this.”
