Building firms unite for campaign
11:59am Wednesday 24th October 2012 in Business news
EIGHT York construction leaders have come together to spearhead a new campaign to encourage growth in the local construction industry.
York Crane Hire, Simpson York Ltd, Simon Sykes Builders Ltd, S&S Site Services, L Philliskirk & Sons Ltd, Collier Plant Hire Ltd, Woodhouse Barry Constructs Ltd and Persimmon PLC will call upon the Government to invest in construction jobs and training as a route out of recession and back to growth.
The Construction4Growth campaign, an initiative set-up by CITB-ConstructionSkills, comes as recent figures suggest that there could be as many as 16,790 local construction workers without a job and claiming Job Seekers’ Allowance.
Mick Hamill, North of England regional delivery manager for CITB-ConstructionSkills, said: “The Construction4Growth Campaign unites every sector of our industry in a drive to kick-start activity, work our way out of recession and remind everybody that construction is a major contributor to economic growth.”
