AS the younger half of a father-son venture, 29-year-old Scott Littlefair tackles the work for their letting agency, Letters of Distinction, with the same verve and energy he displays on the rugby pitch.

That is compliment indeed, considering that he plays in the first team for Pocklington Rugby Club and after leaving Pocklington school taught rugby even to the New Zealanders in his gap year at Wellesley College. And throughout the three years it took to get his BA degree in business and IT, he played first team rugby at the University of Wales It was good preparation for joining his father, Richard, as director of Castle Estates, which doubled in size each year of trading. Taking over Letters of Distinction in 2008 and keeping its brand at its new base in Holgate Road, York, meant they now run one of the largest letting agencies in the city.

Last year the agency let more than £6 million worth of property in York, Selby, Pocklington and the surrounding areas.

In the final quarter its eight staff broke all records, letting 125 properties of which 45 were in December. Turnover for managed properties soared by 34 per cent.

Which job (other than your own) would you like to have and why?

I would love to be a Formula One racing driver – I like living life in the fast lane and wouldn’t mind a touch of the money too! Otherwise I’d be Prime Minster and abolish all tax!

Greatest achievement?

White water rafting down the Zambezi River last year – exhilarating and mentally and physically challenging.

Biggest mistake?

I don’t consider making mistakes but a night on Sambuca is never a good idea.

What makes you most angry?

Incompetence and lack of attention to detail. I also hate people with a defeatist attitude – the only difference between try and triumph is a little “umph”.

What makes you laugh?

My 18 month-old niece, Orla and Gavin & Stacey.

What fools do you suffer least?

People who shirk responsibility and are not accountable for their actions.

Whom do you most admire and why?

Anyone who works in the Armed Forces – I am a strong-willed bloke but would not have the bottle to serve in Afghanistan – they really are true men.

What do you need to make life complete?

I love my job, my wife, Sophie and my home so I guess a family would be next on the list.

How do you relax?

I love walking in the Dales with my wife and golden retriever, Archie – who is very disobedient and never retrieves.

Why do you make a difference?

I have a strong drive and an overwhelming desire to be the best at everything I do.

Name the organisation (apart from your own) that you see as closest to perfection and why.

Virgin – Richard Branson is my idol, his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to be forward-thinking has made him the business leader he is today. From acorns to oak trees...

Favourite record?

It’s got to be Dancing on the Ceiling, by Lionel Richie.

Favourite holiday destination?

Portugal – I love the beautiful beaches and making a few holes in their golfing greens.
