Rowena Lee PR was set up in December 2013 by founder, Rowena Lee.

The 27-year-old, from Acaster Malbis, had been working in the PR and communications industry for seven years before deciding to take a bold step and set up her own company.

More than 18 months on, the team has grown from just one to four members of staff and with more than 20 clients covering a wide spectrum across the UK travel, leisure and corporate industries.

What job would you like to have other than your own and why?

"I always wanted to be a geography teacher, when I was deciding which degree to take it was either Geography or communications.

"I chose communications, which I definitely don’t regret but I sometimes think it would have been pretty cool to teach people about the world. Plus the summer holidays would have been pretty nice."

Greatest achievement?

"Without a doubt it has been starting Rowena Lee PR – I never would have thought I would be my own boss, doing what I love, but I am and to see it grow so much in the last 18 months has just been the best experience."

What makes you most angry?

"I get really annoyed with women that are incredibly strong and smart but dumb themselves down because they think that’s what they need to do.

"I don’t think it’s still a man’s world (I also don’t like chauvinistic men) and women need to be proud of themselves and shout about what they have achieved."

Biggest mistake?

"Being a young business, it’s inevitable that I will make mistakes along the way. Luckily, nothing major has happened yet but it’s all about how you learn from those set backs and how you move forward as a business that’s important."

What do you need to make life complete?

"I have some amazing people around me who make me happy. Family is very important to me, I adore my partner, Marcus, his unwavering support and love encourages me every day.

"I am very close to my parents and two sisters – I am about to become an aunt for the first time, which is very exciting – and last but not least my puppy, Gulliver, he comes to the office everyday and is a great stress reliever."

Why do you make a difference?

"I am really honest and realistic when it comes to both my clients and the business as a whole – I don’t deal in PR jargon. My down to earth attitude and enthusiasm is what my clients like about my approach to their business and I think this makes a difference when working in this industry."
