Monica Green liked The Partners Group so much she bought the PR and marketing agency in 2006.

The company is based at The Mount in York and was founded in 1988.

This year it is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Monica joined the business in 2001 and was part of the management buy-out team five years later, which also included co-workers Karen Nixon and Jayne Davies.

The team of nine promotes small and medium sized businesses in Yorkshire and across the UK in sectors as diverse as property and construction, education, family law, food processing, horse racing and tourism and leisure.

She says: “I’d worked in-house at a nursery goods manufacturer and also gained experienced with a London-based PR agency but always wanted to run my own agency – so the MBO was a great opportunity to take over an existing business and continue to see it thrive.”

She said steering the company through the recession was very challenging. “We had a lot of clients in the construction sector which was hit first and hardest, but luckily our diverse client base helped us to weather the storm – and it’s rewarding to see the building sector starting to grow again with many of those old clients coming back to us for creative and proactive campaigns.”

Monica is originally from Leeds and has lived in York for ten years. “I’m a true Yorkshire lass and although I’ve travelled the world I still think Yorkshire is the most beautiful place to be.

“In fact, to mark our 25th anniversary we recently completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and have so far raised more than £4,500 for Young Carers Revolution in York and national aphasia charity Speakability.”
