CREATING a place like home was what Magdalena Chavez wanted to do when she moved to York from Granada in 1997 with her three teenage children.
El Piano in Grape Lane was what she created, and a decade later eight members of the family now work with the business, which now includes an outlet back in Granada.
Entering the Family Business of the Year category, El Piano boasts a broad customer base which include many regulars - locals, students, UK and overseas visitors, young and old.
The business’s passion for wholly plant-based food delivers a dining destination for people with any eating restrictions, making it popular with those concerned for health, environment and animal welfare.
The business has also recently expanded through major refurbishment to the top floor, creating two B&B rooms, alongside the launch of corporate catering this year.
There’s a willingness at El Piano to share recipes and knowledge with diners on site, online, at events and through the publication of a range of Cookbooks available in store or online. The business also features a cook school.
