A FIRM with its sights set firmly on overseas sales also found success in the Exporter of the Year category.

Night vision specialists NiteSite, which is based at Full Sutton, had already won a Queen’s Award for International Trade earlier this year.

NiteSite started focusing on its overseas sales at an early stage in its development and now 80 per cent of its products now go overseas, with plans for even further growth.

The company has been very proactive in its approach to exporting, with targeted efforts to get into specific markets abroad.

Jacob Horwell, international sales manager, who received the award from Jane Hanson, head of advertising at The Press.

“We won the Queen’s Award, which was big, but as a team of young local people it’s fantastic to be recognised locally,” he said.

Mr Horwell said the company had “started as an idea in a garden shed, in true Yorkshire style”, but was now aiming to employ 50 people and as many as 100 in the future.

He paid tribute to the other finalists, saying: “Export is a thankless job.”
