A COMPANY formed by two Wolds farmers aims to put its products firmly on the culinary map.

The Yorkshire Wagyu Company started trading in 2014 after Jim Bloom and Jonathan Shepherd spent two years establishing one of the biggest Wagyu cross and Wagyu full-blood herds in the UK.

Capitalising on the increasing consumer demand for new and different great tasting beef with known provenance, the pair set up the company to market their super premium beef direct to the public after several years servicing contracts to a multiple retailer.

Now the venture is in the running for the Small Business title at The Press Business Awards 2016.

Wagyu originates from Japan where it is renowned for its exceptional flavour and tenderness and its high levels of ‘good’ monounsaturated fats that give the beef its characteristic marbling.

“It’s still relatively uncommon in the UK, but The Yorkshire Wagyu Company intends to become the largest-scale producer of British Wagyu and to put this fantastic meat firmly on the culinary map,” the company said.

In the past 12 months it has won numerous accolades, including the Northern Farmer Outstanding Achievement Award.
