A HUSBAND and wife duo are running an award winning bed and breakfast nestled among the land their families have farmed for more than 100 years.

Carr House Farm, in Ampleforth, has been put forward for the Tourism and Hospitality Business of the Year by owners Anna Lupton and Jack Peckitt.

Having already been named as a finalist in this year's Visit York Best Bed and Breakfast Awards, as well as being a finalists in the Welcome to Yorkshire White Rose Awards and Brand Yorkshire Autumn awards, the 16th century guest house this year won a gold award from Lodging World.

It's food offering, which is either home grown or produced from locally sourced ingredients, has also been subject of acclaim, winning a silver award at the World Marmalade Festival, as well as being shortlisted for Deliciously Yorkshire's Best Use of Local Produce Award, and receiving a Kellogg's Breakfast award.

Home to the Cuckavalda Gundogs, the bed and breakfast offers guest the opportunity to not only enjoy the company of four-legged friends, but also take them on walks.

Mrs Lupton said: "We have found that this is a great draw to guests who may love dogs, but for whatever circumstances can’t own one themselves.

"Both our families have farmed within two miles of here for over a 100 years .We have great local knowledge, and guests benefit from this as we are able to advise, if needed, them on the best way to spend their time in the area.

"We understand that customer satisfaction is paramount and look for ways to exceed this.

"In 2014 to celebrate Le Tour de France coming to Yorkshire we have complimentary use of two English made cycles for guests to use.

"Guests also have free access to a telescope for dark starry nights as we have no light pollution, with a surprise bacon sandwich and mulled wine to keep them warm.

"We do not employ staff so being our own business our core value is to give good value for money and give over and above what is expected of us.

"We try to do this for every guest every day. We understand repeat business and word of mouth is the best way to generate business."
