AN insurance brokers is in the running for the title of Best People Development after a series of initiatives to enhance cross-departmental integration.
D E Ford, of Poppleton Grange, was formed nearly 40 years ago as a family business and claims to remain a family-orientated business, while now having more than 60 employees.
Bosses say part of the key to the firm's success is the creation of their ‘Learning & Development committee’ where representatives of each department hold discussions chaired by a member of senior management.
Account handler Helen Mercer described the scheme, saying: “This approach enables us to drive development forward, and ensure that the needs of individuals and the business are met. In turn, our people build the attributes and the skills required to deliver a high standard of professional service to our clients.”
Earlier this year, the brokers took part in the national ‘Learning at Work Week’ scheme where workers attend interactive sessions to communicate their respective roles within the business.
The company also recruits from a broad base, having hired two graduates as trainee risk managers and taking on two apprentices as part of a twelve month programme.
