A FREIGHT forwarding company born in the depths of the recession has seen turnover treble to £1.2 million in the last financial year.

Market Weighton-based DSL Global Freight has grown from a home-based business to a thriving enterprise which is on course to double turnover to £2.4 million over the next 12 months and create additional jobs.

The business was set up by Gary Boden, a specialist in transporting large and complex objects across the UK and Europe, and his wife Liz, who handles marketing and office management.

DSL provides logistic solutions for some of the UK's major manufacturers and exporters as well as providing a cost effective delivery solution for more than 20 SMEs.

From its humble beginning, DSL now provides UK exporters with land, air and sea transportation across the world.

Mr and Mrs Boden realised they needed greater commercial expertise if the business was to continue to grow and they recruited Julian Frazier, a former director of Portastor Ltd - part of the Shepherd Group in York, to join them at director level.

Mr Frazier said: "We have put in place strategies which have seen the company evolve from dealing solely with abnormal loads to a business which provides a genuine comprehensive service covering all areas of freight forwarding.

"We still provide solutions for abnormal loads with complex routes and detailing but we have added so much more and this has enabled us to build our customer base and our profits.

"The potential for growth is infinite and we are investing our profits back into the business to ensure we maximise our potential."

The business has recently moved into larger premises in Market Weighton to enable it to grow. It currently has five employees but this is likely to increase in the future.
