LONG-established hostelry The White Swan in Wighill has recently been revitalised with its takeover by a couple with a vision to resurrect it as a traditional English pub.

Wesley and Emma Chamberlain are on a mission to offer good value, seasonal food served in relaxed surroundings, sourced locally wherever possible.

In the space of a few months they have turned the business around and achieved their aim, with The White Swan now a vibrant part of the local community, and employing a team of then.

As new business owners, Mr and Mrs Chamberlain, who are entering the White Swan for New Business of the Year and Best Business and Community Link, faced challenges on taking over the pub, and have had to work hard to identify and establish a new customer base from which to grow.

Mr Chamberlain has been a chef for nearly 15 years, having worked in high-profile restaurants in London and all over the UK, and is passionate about providing the best gastro pub fare, while Mrs Chamberlain's front of house experience has seen her managing establishments with up to 20 staff in the past.

As well as hosting events to encourage locals to socialise, the put offers take away fish and chips and an outdoor pizza oven.

With regard to future plans, the Chamberlains will be expanding the kitchen garden area so they can grow and cook even more of their own produce. They will also be expanding their events programme to provide more local entertainment, and will offer catering for weddings.

The couple say their main aim for the near future is to offer fresh produce for sale from the pub as Wighill has no village shop, so it would provide a real service to locals if they didn't have to travel miles to pick up a loaf of bread or a pint of milk
