AS a winner of not one, but two Queen's Awards for Enterprise Mood International is making its debut in the Press Business Awards.

Based at York Science Park, the software developer employs a team of 83 staff to produce programmes for smarter business analysis for companies around the world.

The business, which sponsors the University of York's Engineering Doctorate (EngD) programme, is hoping to named Technology Business of the Year as well eyeing up the Dare to Export crown.

Chief Strategy Officer Richard Whittington said: "We have proven the commercial viability of the technology directly with UK and global customers.

"Around 100 organisations now run MooD software, and we’ve sold around 5,500 licences.

"With around 25 deployments into some of the world’s most complex businesses in the last three years, we have shown that we can deliver a mix of innovation and industrial level execution."

Users of Mood's software include HP, Cisco, Serco, BP, Shell, plus defence and security organisations.

Recent projects for Mood have focused on two key markets in the UK; security and outsourcing.

As well as its UK sales, Mood has seen a steady growth in exports over the past three years, which now account for 30 per cent of its revenue streams, principally selling to North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

To accommodate this growth, the company has increased its workforce from 69 at the start of 2010 to 83 at the end of 2013, mostly through new graduates.

Mr Whittington said: "We spot export opportunities through two complementary tracks.

"The first track identifies and engages successful, mid-sized organisations in a targeted region.

"Through partnership, we then jointly invest in stimulating that market and up-skilling the company. Local customers purchase MooD software from us, and corresponding solutions are delivered jointly, with revenues shared.

"The second track identifies high-value market sectors for which MooD offers a competitive advantage, and then engages major global suppliers with a proposition that will enhance their competitiveness in those sectors.

"Regional offices purchase MooD software and we work with their delivery teams to win and succeed with local customers.

"The high value nature of the sectors targeted coupled with the global reach of the companies engaged have together led to a step-change in our export revenues and a significant extension to our reach."
