WITH more than 80-years history as a hotel and numerous awards under its belt York Marriott is looking to take home two titles in this year's Business Awards.

Part of the Marriott International portfolio since 2001, the hotel in Tadcaster Road, was built in 1876 as a residential home before being transformed into The Harkers Hotel in 1927, then renamed the Chase Hotel in 1948.

Following a series of modernisations and upgrades the hotel finally became known as the York Marriott in 2001.

The team of more than 100 staff are hoping to add the Tourism and Hospitality Business of the Year crown to their list of accolades, which include being presented with a Highly Commended Award in the Business Tourism category at the recent VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2013, which placed York Marriott in the top five businesses for excellence in their category in England.

The hotel is also looking forward to the Welcome to Yorkshire White Rose Awards 2014 where it is a finalists for the second year running in the Large Hotel of the Year and Business Tourism Award Category.

Director of sales Colin Swanston has also nominated the hotel's assistant conference & events manager Jeanette Hutchinson as Business Personality of the Year.

He said: "Jeanette has been a central figure in our hotel team since she began working with us many years ago.

"She oversees a variety of hotel events from start through to finish and as the first face and voice that our conference, event and wedding guests encounter, Jeanette presents a professional and competent attitude with unfailing courtesy that never fails to impress and reassure.

"But beyond that first impression Jeanette also fills many essential roles for our hotel and does so with incredible dedication."
