ENTERING Technology Business of the Year may seem like an unusual choice for a theatre productions company.

Well not for Pilot Theatre which had adopted a range of technological techniques to deliver multi-platform productions from its base at York Theatre Royal.

As one of only a few national touring mid-scale companies based outside London, Pilot Theatre delivers the livestream webcasts for the City of York Council, and has been developing similar work for companies all over the UK.

Artistic director and chief executive Marcus Romer said: "We work with diverse teams to make a wide range of work for a diverse range of audiences.

"By working with artists of the highest calibre across all our platforms it enables us to make new 'pilot' projects - original commissions, theatre tours, conferences, workshops, digital delivery and participatory projects.

"Working with excellent established artists we nurture emergent talent and develop our next practice with leading practitioners and diverse teams across all our platforms of delivery."

Pilot Theatre has delivered a wide range of work over recent years, including the six camera livestreaming of the York Mystery Plays for The Space, the award winning tour of ‘Looking for JJ’ and more recently the new adaptation by Roy Williams of ‘The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner’ and Blood and Chocolate.
