THE first entry to the 2014 Business Awards to come from Harrogate has arrived in the form of Independent Tax and Forensic Services LLP.

The business, formed a year ago by former tax inspectors Gary Brothers and Stephen Outhwaite, is vying for New Business of the Year and Small Business of the Year.

In its first year Independent Tax and Forensic Services, based in Station Parade, has built a portfolio of more than 100 clients based all over the UK, ranging from sole traders to multi-nationals, high profile sports stars and one of the world’s best-known entertainers.

Mr Brother and Mr Outhwaite say they offer expertise from "both sides of the tax coin" having both began their careers working for HM Revenue and Customs, before resigning to work accountancy practices offering firms and individuals tax advice. After ten years, the pair decided to set up on their own and launched Independent Tax and Forensic Services LLP.

Due to their increasing work load, and Mr Brother and Mr Outhwaite having to travel all over the UK, they business has already engaged the services of two associates to assist them in the day-to-day running of the business.

In the next two months this number will double with negotiations currently underway to bring in a further two tax experts as associates, as well as an office administrator.

In addition to the support it offers businesses, Independent Tax and Forensic Services LLP is being called on by a growing number of high profile individuals. These include one of the world’s best-known entertainers, Premier League footballers, international rugby players and actors.

The pair has also been approached to launch a joint Scottish venture, with an office in either Aberdeen or Glasgow set to be launched later this year, just after the start of the new tax year.

In addition to their growing army of UK clients, Mr Brothers and Mr Outhwaite are now supporting ex-pats who, while they may have physically moved to European destinations, they have investments and business dealings still within the UK.

At the outset of launching Independent Tax & Forensic Services LLP, Mr Brothers and Mr Outhwaite have undertaken a number of fundraising efforts for local charities.
