Spear Travels is the fastest-growing independent travel agency in North Yorkshire. Its head office is in Boroughbridge and it has other branches in Northallerton, Leyburn, Helmsley, Stokesley, Stoke, Wolverhampton and Upminster.

The company was established in 1983 and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

It is a member of ABTA, is an Air Travel Organisers’ Licence holder and an appointed ticketing agent for scheduled airlines worldwide.

Being a member of the Advantage Travel Consortium (the largest in the UK), ACE (Association of Cruise Experts) and LCA (Leading Cruise Agents of the UK) means Spear can provide a huge choice and offer holidays with the smaller tour operators that are often not available with the larger, mass market travel agents.

The business is sustaining growth year on year and expanding on the high street while other larger travel agencies are closing branches.

Spear opened its eighth branch (Stokesley) earlier this year. In 2012 it won Best Small Travel Agent in the North at the prestigious Agent Achievement Awards and has not looked back since!

The company has just completed a rebrand and has a new website and e-newsletter programme in development, due for launch later this summer.

While many travel agencies have been badly affected by the move towards flight and holiday bookings on the internet, Spear Travels has stuck firmly to its ethos of providing excellent customer service face to face and over the telephone.

The commitment to this service has paid off, as the company is seeing customers returning to the travel agent and turning away from the internet to let the experts do all the hard work at no extra cost.

Involvement in the local community is also key to Spear’s success.

As it is mainly based in small market towns, it is important to engage with and help other organisations.
