Richard Flanagan has been president of the York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce for the past two years and has been nominated for Business Personality of the Year in The Press Business Awards 2013.

The head of the chamber, Susie Cawood, said: "Richard has given freely of his time on behalf of the chamber, representing our members on different boards such as the York Economic Partnership and York Property Forum and attending meetings with key regional decision makers.’’

She said that this was all the more admirable as Richard's presidency coincided with him setting up his own business, Flanagan James, a property consultancy based in Strensall.

She said: "Richard is a great ambassador for York and North Yorkshire and has done vital work to promote this region to inward investors.

‘‘He has been instrumental in attracting several important businesses to the area. He is passionate about helping businesses thrive and grow in this region and truly deserves public recognition for the support he has given to the chamber and our members.

‘‘He is an inspirational role model for the business community."
