Zetland Boxes is York's oldest cardboard box manufacturer.

Building on a base of long-standing customers, the past year has seen the business continue to grow, with online sales increasing thanks to the launch of a new website in October 2012.

Now Zetland Boxes, based in Heworth Village, York, is hoping for a win in The Press Business Awards 2013 in the Small Business of the Year category.

Managing director Ken Evans explained a recent and very successful new line: "In April this year, we introduced a range of postage boxes specifically for the new Royal Mail postage rates.

‘‘Due to the price adjustments by Royal Mail, our customers were struggling to keep their postage box sizes within very tight guidelines to avoid financial penalties.

"As one of the first box suppliers to design, make and market boxes which complied with the new regulations, we attracted a lot of publicity on a number of websites including Tamebay.org, one of the UK's largest e-commerce blogs and on PostAndParcel.info, a leading global mail news site.

"This resulted in a huge number of new customers and orders started flooding in from across the UK in anticipation of the parcel rate changes.

"With our recent expansion into a larger storage facility, we have boosted this range to include a budget and premium box design which caters for any requirement, as well as more than a dozen box sizes that will fit the size restrictions."
