These are the eight winners of The Press Pub Awards 2011, after a bumper list of nominations and months of judging.

The Swan, on the corner of Bishopthorpe Road and Clementhorpe in York, won the award for best overall pub, and received a barrel of beer from local champion brewer, Rudgate, as a prize.

All other pubs received framed certificates in recognition of their achievements.

Thanks again to everyone who nominated pubs for the awards and who voted in the readers’ choice poll, and thanks also to Rudgate for kindly donating the barrel of beer to the overall winner.

Good luck to 'em. The government recomendations today for over 60s of less than ½ pint of ale a day isn't any use to me or pubs. And I a'int gonna pay £2.80p for a glass of orange cordial in a bar!

It goes to show how fortunate we are in York - these are all good boozers, and there are many others that come very close. Try saying that about the centre of Halifax...

Is there a 'conspirancy' about, or are there 'aliens' of which we are not aware, out there. Known fact, pubs are closing at a 'Brobdingnagian' (what a wonderful word for 'enormous') rate. Landlords and Landladies are vying for custom and yet 'the experts' tell us to 'drink less'. Us 'oxygen thieves' as we are named, are costing the government in pensions, health services and living longer, so let us drink, smoke, sleep around and die happy, then we will be less of a burden on the state.

Calling all the over 60's, go out and 'Ski' (spend the kids inheritence)

How can Shaun Collinge be the best landlord when his name isn't even over the door ?

*Positivity alert!*
.
I love those photos they are great, especially Shaun, he has never looked so benevolent .
The Swan won the overall category, yay! I love drinking in the Swan. Good beer, good proprietors, good place, good customers. Always a friendly atmosphere.
All the cr@p we hear all the time about the smoking ban and supermarkets is just that - cr@p. Good pubs live, bad pubs die.
Look at the Fulford Arms, terrible old style dive - reborn as lively pleasant pace to drink quality beer.
Pubs are good mmmkay.
Well done all the winners!

Because the award is for the best landlord not best licensee?

Maybe you should check the licensing laws since they were changed in 2003. The landlord's name is no longer something that is over the door as licencees hold a "personal" rather than a premises licence.
