Updated: A MAN arrested in connection with the blaze which killed two promising young jockeys in North Yorkshire has been released on bail.
Jockey Jan Wilson, 19
The man, believed to be from Norton and in his 30s, was arrested shortly after the tragedy in the early hours of Saturday.
He was given conditional police bail yesterday.
The bodies of 18-year-old Jamie Kyne and woman rider Jan Wilson, 19, were recovered yesterday from the blackened interior of a block of flats in Norton, and police and fire investigation teams and forensic experts are now trying to establish the cause of the blaze.
Jockey Jamie Kyne, 18
Jan Wilson’s boyfriend, Ian Brennan, 20, jumped to safety from the flat and was taken to hospital, but later went on to ride at Thirsk on Saturday and then York yesterday.
Another jockey, Dean Pratt, was reported to have been taken to York Hospital for treatment for burns and smoke inhalation.
According to residents, about four or five people from the block had been out on Friday night to celebrate getting their “pool money” from one of the local racehorse trainers, and came back to the flats and continued to celebrate on the top floor. But industry sources said Mr Brennan and his friends had been asleep when the fire broke out.
Six people are believed to have been in the block at the time – Mr Kyne, Miss Wilson, Mr Brennan, Mr Pratt, another man and another woman.
