ROUNDHEADS and Cavaliers have fought out a fierce battle in a York field - but the city hasn't gone back in time.
Instead, members of the Sealed Knot society, who re-enact battles from the English Civil War, were visiting Nether Poppleton's Millennium Green.
They were in the village to mark a famous Royalist civil war victory, when in 1644 York was captured by Prince Rupert. He is known to have crossed the river at Poppleton.
After the battle, villagers gathered in an ancient tithe barn for a 17th century-style banquet, marking a visit to York by Charles I 360 years ago.
The event was organised by Poppleton Historical Society.
