Connex’s card system for fare dodgers postponed

CONNEX has postponed introduction of its "yellow and red card" system for dealing with fare dodgers for a second time.

The new method of catching fare evaders, due to be brought in last week, has been put back while it continues to consult rail users.

The train operator, which runs services through Bromley, announced last November the system replacing £10 on-the-spot fines would be in place by January.

A month later, the company said staff shortages would delay introduction until April 1. Connex says it will still press ahead with the change in a bid to claw back the £30m it loses per year through fare dodging.
