REIGNING York Minster Engineering League champions Old Malton St Mary’s kicked off their new premier division campaign with a 4-0 triumph at F1 Racing in New Earswick – but dropped points on Monday night in a goalless home draw with Osbaldwick.

Substitute Marcus Godsell carried on against F1 from where he left off last season by bagging a brace in Saturday's clash, in between strikes from Danny Fogg and Harvey Townley.

Fogg gave Saints a super start when he slotted in Josh Bown’s low cross and the visitors should have gone into the break 3-0 up but for golden chances being squandered.

The second half tested Old Malton’s resilience with the wind against them and man-of-the-match Simon Cooke was kept busy in goal before Godsell notched twice in quick succession.

For the first, he latched on to Daman Cox’s through ball and curled his effort into the far corner.

His second was the goal of the game. Darren Dunning’s header sent the striker free and he went on to lob the keeper, on the half-volley, from 25 yards, before Townley rounded off the scoring with a close-range effort.

A poor display followed on Monday as St Mary’s and Osbaldwick played out a stalemate.

Saints had the better of the chances in the first half, with Fogg and Cox hitting the woodwork, but the visitors pressed well and won multiple corners.

The second half brought out a more dominant home side but they could not get past the Osso defence. The best chances saw Connor Shipley’s bullet header smothered well by the keeper and a tight offside call deny Townley a tap-in.

Osbaldwick had a man sent off late on but they could have stolen it at the end as a header dropped just wide.

Old Malton on Saturday go to neighbours Brooklyn, who have got off to a terrible start to the season.

Brooklyn, who only just avoided relegation last term, followed their opening 5-0 derby defeat to top-tier new-boys Malton & Norton with a 4-0 loss to Dunnington.

Man-of-the-match Ben Small (2) Jonathan Andrew and Samson Wildwood got Dunnington’s goals.

For M&N last midweek, Scott Preston bagged a hat-trick, with Matthew Reeves and Simon Reeves also on target.

Church Fenton White Horse are the league's early pacesetters after a cracking 6-2 win at Riccall United, man-of-the-match Jonathan Hadley hitting a hat-trick and Adam Beavers a brace. Jamie Wheeler got both of United's goals.

That followed a 4-2 White Horse win over York RI last midweek, Hadley again leading the way with a double.

Wigginton Grasshoppers also have two wins from two. A 2-0 defeat of Dringhouses, Matthew Tiplady and sub Gary Newton on target, followed a 3-1 win over Copmanthorpe in which man-of-the-match Jordan Holt, Stuart Rice and Tiplady found the net.

Last midweek, goals by Joshua Whaite, James Edmond and Lee Bunce gave Huntington Rovers a 3-2 victory at Osbaldwick - goalkeeper Thomas Young getting one of Osso's goals, Jack Sullivan the other.

The other two games ended in draws, Riccall and F1 Racing finishing 1-1 and Tadcaster Magnets and Dringhouses playing out a goalless stalemate.

There is again a programme of midweek matches tomorrow night.
